I totally agree. Not really into this style of dress. I was really excited to find your blog as I see you are from Toowoomba. I grew up on the Darling Downs and went to high school there. My brother still lives there. I am not too far away at the Sunny Coast.

Cat1, good point! I'd rather make something OUT THERE than spend my time sewing Yet Another Boring Outfit, to be honest. And it's certainly the only way I'll ever be able to afford something like a Miyake.

Now I'm just waiting for the next ClubBMV sale…

I like the new Vogue designs. In the economic climate present here and esp. in the USA, I think it shows a fair bit of bravery by Vogue to present designs that are forward thinking and in some cases teetering on the abyss, rather than presenting a collection that may be regarded as "safe". Remember also that the early Issey Miyake desgns were probably met in some quarters with raised eyebrows, now they are collector patterns and have used as inspiration by other designers. Wasn't it IM who brought us one of the first twisted tee shirts?

On the other hand, perhaps they work so far in the future, that this collection was "set" before the collapse of the US economy? It will be interesting to see the next couple of collections.

I can't see it too well in the picture, but I think it has a center seam in the back…like the back is one looooong piece, with an armscye at either end. And in the photo from the front…is that something hanging inside? Like a weight? "Deciphering" awesome clothes is so much fun!!

I have a vogue pattern that has draping like that on the back, not as exaggerated but I think that would depend on fabric. I could hook it out and scan the relevant bits and piece if you would be interested … I think it was from the early 90's
